A Miniature Railroad carved into the interior of a Carpenter’s Pencil

Last year I marvelled at the skill of Jasenko Đorđević to transform the end of a pencil into a sculpture. Here’s the link to what I wrote.

Whilst poodling around on the web I came across another sculpture made from a pencil. This time though it is a whole layout!!!! Honest. Check out the pics below.

Mind boggling isn’t it? I have trouble sharpening the bloody pencil let alone carving it.

This piece is by Nebraska-based artist Cindy Chinn.  “This piece was designed using straight lead pieces for the rails, with the tiny carved train placed and securely glued on top of the rails,” “The train engine is only 3/16″ of an inch tall. The pencil is 5-5/8″ long and mounted in a wood shadowbox frame as shown in the photos.”

You can see more of Chinn’s pencil carving work on her website and on Etsy.
