CWR Diesel #53 added to the Roster of the Mendocino Coast Railroad and Navigation Company

There’s always one in a group who wants to be different. Right? Well our club, I think to a man, is hooked on steam locos be they live steam or electric. Except, that is, for President Phil Miller. Phil for many years had a superb N-scale layout at his home. I only saw it once and my memory is that it was all Diesel powered. And now he is into G he has two Diesels – the only G scale Diesels in the club. His newest acquisition  (to be run on our railroad, the Mendocino Coast Railroad and Navigation Company), is a Baldwin  DS4- 4-1000, he had Basil Casabona re-paint into the livery that CWR (California Western Railroad aka the Skunk) used when they owned #53. How do we know what the livery looked like? Because #53 is still alive (just) and is at Roots of Motive Power waiting to be restored. You can see pics of the real #53 in my blog entry of December 10th, 2011 . The real deal is shown first below and then pics of Phil’s beauty.
